Workout tracking app

Otsechka is a mobile workout journal. You write in free text, like in a notes app, and the app parses the entries, builds up a history and shows your progress

Challenge

Build a mobile workout journal where you can write in free text, like in a notes app: “squat 40x10 40x8”. The app parses the line into exercises, weights and reps, builds up a history and shows progress in a clear way. It works offline, and iOS and Android are equal platforms.

Solution

A single codebase for iOS and Android. I added a free-text parser that tolerates abbreviations, decimal commas and several sets on one line. Workout tonnage is turned into a metaphor — from a rabbit to a whale. The streak is counted in weeks, with several workouts per week. Everything is stored locally and works without internet.

Result

Logging a workout takes seconds instead of minutes. The user sees a clear summary and progress rather than a row in a table. The app works in the gym without a network and needs no structured input. Users come back regularly because they see their progress.
